The Telangana Rastra Samithi favoured ballot papers in the by-elections and voted against the use of the electronic voting machines (EVMs).
The TRS had submitted a memorandum to the State Election Officer I V Subba Rao on Wednesday stating that people were unaware of the use of the machines. The TRS argued that voters were getting confused with the machines as they were used to the
ballot papers.
The TRS cited the 2009 elections and claimed that the party could not win several seats because of the confusion. The TRS wanted the EC to drop EVMs now and use ballot papers, which would be easy for the voters.
Several political parties have complained against the use of the machines after the 2009 elections. The Jana Vignana Vedika had also conducted a demonstration in Delhi on the possibilities of misusing the machine.
The TD had sent a delegation to the EC in Delhi against the EVMs and wanted the EC to use ballot papers. Even as the issue is pending before the EC, the TRS wanted thestate election commission to use ballot papers.
Doesn't it mean the TRS found an excuse for its defeat much ahead of the elections?
