Orange - Movie Review

Finally, the wait is over. The much awaited film of the season ‘Orange’ is released world widely with 700 prints in 1000 theaters. Being Ram Charan’s immediate film after his mega block-buster hit Magadheera, the expectations of the film went to peaks. Genelia played the lady love of Ram Charan in the film. Here is the detailed analysis of ‘Orange’ for you.

Cast: Ram Charan Tej, Genelia, Shazahn Padamsee, Bramanandam, Suman, Pragathy, Kishore , Brahmanandam, Ali, Ahuti Prasad and others
Director: Bommarillu Bhaskar
Producer: K.NagaBabu
Banner: Anjana Productions
Music: Harris Jayraj
Cinematography: D. Rajasekhar, Kiran Reddy
Editor: Marthand K. Venkatesh

Story:
Ram (Ram Charan Tej) is a photographer and falls for Jaanu (Genelia) in the very first look. Janu is a crazy lady who wants to fall in love. Puppy (Brahmanandham) is Genelia’s uncle. Prakash Raj is an Australian police. Manjula and Sanjay Swarup are Ram’s sister and brother-in-law respectively. After Jaanu falls in love with Ram, Ram says that love does not exist forever and so he can love her for only few days. Listening to this, Jaanu tries to avoid him but Ram still follows her. What was the reason for Ram believing in short love? Will Ram change himself finally and how do their love story ends is the rest of the story to be watched on screen.

Performances:
Ramcharan: Ramcharan deserves a tap on shoulder to act in this one. He is very convincing in his theory that over a period of time. He is simply rocking in this movie. His costumes, hairstyle and gadgets are sure going to become a rage among the college goers in coming days.

Genelia:Genelia is as lively as ever. She is supreme cool in those ultra modern costumes and chic look. Her character has shades of Bommarillu Hasini.

Shazahn Padamsee: Padamsee is gorgeous; although her role is short-lived, she makes her presence felt as the girl who’s responsible for Charan’s adamant nature

Others: Brahmanandam’s comedy as Puppy is good in few scenes. Avasarala Srinivas excelled in a tiny role called Pushkar, Actors like Prakash Raj, Prabhu, Manjula, Sanjay Swaroop do their bits well,

Highlights

First Half:
  • Ram Charan completely different to previous films. He looked much stylish and Genelia’s energetic characterization is a plus.
  • Brahmanandam’s comedy as Puppy and Genelia’s energy are the main highlight
  • Greatly picturised songs, Visual feast for the audience but no great steps by Charan.
Second Half:
  • Second half slows down the film.
  • Shazahn Padamsee looked good opposite Charan and Rooba Rooba song well shot.
  • Charan and the rest of the gang play ‘Truth or Dare’ is awesome
  • An unconvincing flash back is a negative point for the film
  • Logical conversations before the climax are well presented. However it lacked clarity.
Analysis:
Cinematography by Rajasekhar is great. He uses Australia to the maximum, and creates great visuals. He excels even in few scenes that have been shot in Mumbai. Dialogues and screenplay are good, for most part of the movie. Harris Jayaraj’s songs are a hit already, and they are shot well. Re-recording adds a lot of feel to the movie. Editing by Marthand K.Venkatesh is to the point.

Bhaskar has proved his mettle again as a director in many scenes. His thought process and ideas are definitely different from others. He tries to make a film out of human feelings and emotions. However, he should not try to ‘teach’ with every film. Audience should feel the pinch themselves by watching someone’s story on the screen. They shouldn’t be pinched by the director or repeatedly preached about the goodness in life. His story and concept are nice and praiseworthy. There is many a scene that is clap-worthy too.  Take that scene in the pub where Charan and the rest of the gang play ‘Truth or Dare’ or even the one where he drives his car in breakneck speed; they are among the best scenes in the film which define the hero’s perspective on love. What is lacking is the clarity towards the finale. He lost focus at some point and tried to end the film on a confusing note. That has been the major drawback of Orange movie.

Final Verdict :

The movie is strictly for A centers with no mass elements. Especially the youngsters can enjoy the film. Bhaskar tried a different concept, a risky and sensitive subject. Though the film drags down in second half he finally convinces well. Overall, not a high range but an above average range flick.
