Story: Rams (Jagapathi Babu) runs a restaurant in Bangkok and stays with his wife Divya (Vimala Ramana) and son. One day a composed Rams kill two dacoits to save a woman in his restaurant. Guru Narayan (Kota Srinivas Rao) sees this news in TV and immediately sends his lawyer Thannikela Bharani and son Shankar Narayan (late Kota Prasad) to Bangkok to find out whether this Rams is the same Durga or not? The plot unveils when the duo discover that Rams and Durga are same. And the aftermath – it’s all about how Rams reincarnate into the once powerful Durga and lock horn with Guru Narayan.

Performance:
Jagapathi Babu: Jagapathi Babu could not deliver the same emotion, ardor and sensitivity in Gaayam 2. When few shots were aired from Gaayam1, people in the auditorium were excited to see a vintage the then Jagapathi Babu. But the same rigor is missing for this sequel, although he’s done reasonably well.

Vimala Raman: Vimala Raman did well as Jagapathi Babu’s wife. Her character was adequately sketched.

Kota Srinivas: Kota Srinivas Rao is the highlight. His growing age is only adding value to his acting career and he’s done exceptionally well as Guru Narayan. The only saving grace for Gaayam 2 is Kota Srinivas Rao. He delivered the same punch like he did in Gaayam 1.

Prasad: Kota Prasad, his son is also adequate as Shankar Narayan in some action scenes. Thannikela Bharani looks formal, but good as a lawyer.

Analysis: Gaayam 2 is the sequel for the hit film Gayam (1993), directed by Ram Gopal Varma. Now, if you want to emulate Ram Gopal Varma, you need to have a stronger element in the script with great screenplay and sensibilities, which Gaayam 2 is missing. Debutant Praveen Sri initiated a sincere attempt, but it is inevitable that people start comparing Gaayam 2 with Gaayam, where Praveen Sri cannot score many marks.

One of the prime intricacies of Gaayam 2 being many people forgot Gaayam, and it is a trifle thorny to recap things almost after 17 years. However, Praveen Sri has included few Gaayam scenes for better recall, but that only added to the length of the movie.

Gaayam 2 does not have same savor, tinge and maneuver of Gaayam comparatively. The action episodes shown in Gaayam were very natural and absorbing, but in Gaayam 2 the plot and the transformation is not that well-built and powerful. Mind you, the central theme of Gaayam 1 was spinning on societal change and role of human beings in upholding those. It’s more message oriented rather.

High voltage action packed drama and conspiracy took centre stage in Gaayam, but in Gaayam 2, the movie was more spinning on drama. The action sequences that were seen in bits and pieces did not evoke the required fillip and impetus for an emotional revenge. Songs and lyrics in Gaayam were highlights and became assets while they turned a liability in Gaayam 2.

Having said all these, Praveen Sri deserves credit on few aspects. The cinematography is very good; particularly the shots in Bangkok are on par with the best. Even the locations are fresh.

eRojuStory's Verdict : Gaayam 2, it is an honest and sincere attempt by Praveen Sri. However, the movie lacks the required exploit, voltage, political conspiracy and thump to strike the box office.
