The Congress this time nominated K. Mahender Reddy who contested as TRS rebel from Sircilla in the previous elections and lost with a slender margin of about 170 votes to TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao's son K. Taraka Rama Rao.
Despite contesting as a TRS rebel, he warded off the Congress and the TDP and even lost the seat from the TRS candidate by a very slender margin.
Now with the support of the Congress and the indirect support of the TDP, he has an obvious edge over KTR to get elected. Also the efforts of KTR to bring the Congress and the TDP cadre to the TRS was not successful
