TDP will come to power in 2014

Telugu Desam Polit Bureau member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu has asserted that the party would storm back to power in 2014. Addressing party workers after the swearing-in ceremony of the district committee at the party office on Thursday, Mr. Ramakrishnudu launched a scathing attack on the government and the Congress.

He said that the people in the State were ready to teach the party a befitting lesson and exuded the confidence that the party would romp home in the local body elections to be held shortly. Earlier, Chilakaluripeta MLA Prathipati Pulla Rao was reinstated as district unit president. Tenali Sravan Kumar, who quit government service and unsuccessfully contested from Tadikonda Assembly segment, was sworn in secretary.

Veteran party leaders, Alapati Venkat Rao, Makineni Pedaratthiah, MLAs Nakka Anand Babu and Y. Srinivasa Rao and others were present. Surprise elevation Though the decision to reinstate Mr. Pulla Rao was not surprising, Mr. Sravan Kumar's elevation as district secretary seemed to indicate the party's intention to win back the support of Dalits. The party had earlier nominated ex-minister J.R Pushparaj as party vice-president.

Mr. Pulla Rao's ability to steer clear internal squabbles among senior leaders dogging the party seemed to have worked in his favour. Initiated into the party by Kodela Siva Prasada Rao, Mr. Pulla Rao quickly consolidated his position within the party and managed to get along with the rank and file of the party. His efforts in organising the Yuva Garjana in October 2008 won him recognition across the State.

Mr. Sravan Kumar, a Group-1 officer, quit his job and joined the party in 2009 and was rewarded with the candidature of Tadikonda segment. He was, however, edged out in a close contest with Secondary Education Minister Dokka Manikya Vara Prasada Rao. Ramasantha Rani was nominated as women's wing president. Committees for youth, city and Telugu Rythu have not been set up.
