A discount war has erupted among heroines in Kollywood, after Nayanthara and Trisha stopped signing new films

The market is clogged with Bollywood rejects, Mumbai models and wannabe actresses from Kerala, who want to play heroine to the top five saleable stars in Tamil films. The way budget airlines have taken over the Indian skies is being replicated in Kollywood in a different way, as top actresses are reducing their salaries to get plum roles.

Shriya Saran is angry and hurt that some people with vested interests are spreading false rumours that she is charging a whopping Rs 1 crore to do a Tamil film. A peeved Shriya, now shooting with Arya for Chikku Bukku in Karaikudi, said, “Certain people with vested interests have unleashed a campaign that I’m charging Rs 1 crore as my salary. This is totally false. Even at the best of times, I haven’t got that much money for any of my films. The truth is that my remuneration for a film is nowhere near this astronomical figure.”
