Bharatiya Janata Party activists staged a unique demonstration in Visakhapatnam on Tuesday, in protest against rising prices of red gram (kandi pappu).
Calling it as “pappu satyagraham” on the lines of “uppu satyagraham” (salt satyagraha) of Mahatma Gandhi, the BJP workers sported bags of red gram around their necks and took out a rally, criticising the indifferent attitude of the government in controlling spiralling red gram prices.
They raised slogans against Y S Rajasekhara Reddy government and announced that their peaceful satyagraha would continue till the prices come down.
It would have been better, if the BJP leaders took out the rallies in Hyderabad; at least it would have got a few seats in the forthcoming GHMC elections!
