Even as the arrest of Telugu Desam MLA T V Rama Rao of Kovvur in West Godavari has created ripples in political circles, a threat of arrest looms large on Praja Rajyam Party leader Chanumolu Rajiv, who unsuccessfully contested against Lagadapati Rajagopal in Vijaywada Lok Sabha constituency in the recent elections.
Rajiv was facing a charge of collecting Rs 35 lakh from a person, promising to get him a judge post a few months ago. He later issued a cheque to the candidate, after the latter failed to get the post. The cheque got bounced subsequently. The issue created a sensation before the elections, but the PRP leader dubbed it as a ploy of the ruling Congress to malign his image in the elections. Subsequently, the candidate filed a petition in the court. Now, the Vijayawada Metropolitan magistrate court issued an arrest warrant against Rajiv.
This gentleman has strong political connections at the national level, which was evident from the way top Samajwadi Party leaders Amar Singh and Sanjay Dutt campaigned for him in the elections. Will get out of the crisis using his political clout?
