Rajya Sabha member, K V P Ramachandra Rao, who was the close confident of late Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, is now at the receiving end.
KVP has been the advisor to the State government during Dr Rajasekhar Reddy’s regime and subsequently became the Rajya Sabha member. He was also made the chairman of the committee of public security, which had the Home Minister, DGP, Chief Secretary as members. The committee was responsible for the safety and security of the people in the State including the naxal and terrorist attacks.
The committee remained spectator to the helicopter crash on September 2, in which Dr Rajasekhar Reddy was killed along with four others. While KVP tried to convince people of the safety of Dr Rajasekhar Reddy, one of its members, S S P Yadav, the then DGP, tried to wash off his hands by saying that his role ended when the helicopter took off from the ground. “We are responsible for the security (of the VIP) only on the ground and not in the sky,” was his reaction.
Now, after more than a month of the incident, Sakshi daily carried a special story attributing it to the investigating authorities, when in it had raised doubts on the crash. The Congress leader, Ambati Rambabu too raised doubts on the crash and wanted the government to reveal the facts.
Reacting sharply to these doubts, some of the senior leaders, held KVP responsible for the incident. A two-time MP, Madhu Yashki Gowd, said KVP was responsible for the safety of Dr Rajasekhar Reddy and if there are any doubts on the crash, KVP should accept his responsibility and resign.
Whether he accepts his responsibility and resigns or not is a different issue. But, the issue had put him in a fix and left no chance for him to speak anymore. Added to this, chief minister K Rosaiah has been saying that he was not clear about the term of KVP as government advisor. It is for sure that Rosaiah does not want KVP to continue in the post any more as the chief minister wants to have his own men.
Keeping all these factors in view, it is for sure that KVP is in the receiving end and has to answer many people on many questions. Let us see what he is going to do in the days to come as the issues get harder.
