PRP finally gets 'sun' symbol

The Election Commission on Friday allotted “sun” symbol for Praja Rajyam Party floated by Chiranjeevi.

The EC wrote a letter to this effect to Chiranjeevi. The PRP has asked for allotment of either sun or wheel as a permanent election symbol for the party. In the recent elections, the PRP was allotted rail engine symbol temporarily, but it could not fetch the expected results for the party. Chiru said the rail engine did not catch up well with the people because it was allotted at the last moment; and moreover, there were several other symbols like tractor and road roller, which resembled the rail engine, causing confusion among the voters. Secondly, the rail engine symbol also did not suit Chiranjeevi’s horoscope.

Since the PRP got more than the required percentage of votes for being recognised as a regional party, the EC had asked the party to choose a permanent election symbol. Accordingly, it had chosen “sun” in tune with the party flag and philosophy.
