There had been some record making movies in the past. Young Tiger NTR's "Simhadri" in Rajamouli's direction created a sort of records. Then Megastar's "Thagoor" in Vinayak's direction followed it. Prince Mahesh Babu's "Pokiri" in Puri Jagannadh's direction, broke all the records. Power Star Pawan Kalyan's "Jalsa" with Thrivikram Srinivas as its director broke Pokiri's record. Now cine pundits forecast that Ramcharan Tej starrer "Magadheera" will leave behind all previous records to make new ones. According to Film Trade circles' estimation, it would gross a revenue of six crore rupees in the first three days of its release and is expected to do more than forty crores business in coming ten days. If this turns to be true, Ramcharan in a way would be beating all the heroes in collections..!

Officials spoil the show for Chiru’s son

HYDERABAD: Star sons often have an unfair advantage over their competitors. But Ramcharan Teja appears to be paying a price for being PRP chief Chiranjeevi’s son.

With his ‘Magadheera’ slated to hit cinemas this Friday, officials have thrown the rule book at him, limiting the number of shows to four in a day. Till now the official practice was to look the other way in Andhra and Rayalaseema where traditionally a movie would have seven to eight shows in the first three-four days of its release.

Officials, however, are citing law and order problem behind the restriction. Tirupati RDO M Venkateshwarlu said no theatre in the temple town would be allowed to run more than four shows of ‘Magadheera’. “Films may have been exhibited six to seven times in the past. But we will not allow it this time,” he stressed.

Of the 10 theatres exhibiting ‘Magadheera’ in Tirupati, seven belong to prominent PRP leaders. And papa Chiru is the MLA from here. The father-son duo’s fans argue that their films are being deprived of more shows when films of Nagarjuna, Balakrishna, Venkatesh and Mahesh Babu have traditionally had seven to eight shows.

So who is the villain? According to Tirupati PRP leader Kiran Royal: “Officials are playing dirty by quoting a rule which was never implemented when films of other stars were released.”

Not to be browbeaten, fans associations and PRP leaders might go for ‘benefit shows’ by buying out one or two shows of other films exhibited in theatres, said sources.

The craze for Ramacharan — whose debut film ‘Chirutha’ was released over a year ago — is also evident in the prices of tickets in black. “Chirutha’s box tickets went for Rs 6,000 each in a theatre in Vizag. It might touch Rs 7,000 now given the mass hysteria for his films in north Andhra,” a manager of Srikanth Film Distributors claimed.

While the film is expected to be released in nine theatres in Guntur city alone and nearly 100 theatres in the district, ironically, several Congress leaders in Guntur have booked theatres for all shows for the first two-three days. These include heavy industries minister Kanna Lakshminarayana’s son Nagaraju who has blocked tickets for all the shows (July 31) in two theatres in Guntur, while city mayor Rayapati Saimohan Krishna reportedly booked an entire theatre, said sources.

While the restrictions might spur more houseful shows, the star son on his part has been looking heavenward for the success of his film and was seen praying at the Pedda Dargah in Kadapa and the Srikalahasti Temple on Wednesday.

Goa Coast Guard alerted about Suspicious ship

The Indian Navy and the Coast Guard have intensified their patrolling off Konkan coast following intelligence inputs that a suspicious ship was heading towards Goa.

Intelligence inputs to Goa police on Thursday night from their counterparts which alerted them about a "suspiciously moving ship".

The Indian Navy officials said "We were informed by Goa police about such movement of the ship and verifying the reports,".

The Sindhudurg police said the information provided by the fishermen were no specific details about the vessel. The information did not even mention whether it was a large ship or small trawler-like vessel.

Atmaram Deshpande, Superintendent of Police (Special Branch), said "The Indian Navy and the Coast Guard launched search mission immediately after the inputs were conveyed to them but till now we have not received any feedback. That means the vessel was not traced or inputs were improper.

Goa Police said that according to the inputs, the boat was supposed to touch the state's coast on Friday morning.

"These days there is hardly any ship movement in the sea due to rough weather. So, if there is any vessel, it is not difficult to locate it," Deshpande said.

Goa Police said that they have alerted the coastal police stations, which will increase vigilance along the beach belt, as they don't want to leave anything to chance.

Post-Mumbai terror attacks, the possibility of a strike from sea was feared by intelligence agencies which had even said that Lashkar-e-Toiba's 'sea wing' is likely to hit the western coast.

Bar girls dance at Sourav's eatery

Carrying out a sting operation, a Kolkata-based Bengali news channel claimed to have exposed performances by bar girls in former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly's restaurant in the city.

With the footage of girls gyrating to loud music, the channel claimed that it was shot at Ganguly's four-storied restaurant, Sourav's - The Food Pavilion. The sting lands him in a fresh controversy.

Sourav's is one of the most popular restaurants in Kolkata. But when an undercover reporter from TV channel, Channel 10, went to the restaurant, he found girls dancing within the premises without license. The reporter alleged that the girls were used as enticement to clients.

Charan fans left high and dry

TIRUPATI: As expected, a strict police and revenue surveillance marked the release of Chiru’s son, Ram Charan Tej’s much-touted film, “Magadheera” in five theatres in Tirupati. Though the film hit the silver screen on Friday all over the State, its release in Tirupati created a lot of ripples in the film and political circles in view of the war of words between the Congress activists and the Chiru-Charan fans in the run-up to the release.

Congress cadres raised serious objections over allowing the theatres to run six to eight shows of the film a day in the name of ‘fans shows’. Their complaint was that the theatres would be making some quick money in the process by jacking up the ticket price to a whopping Rs.500 each.

While the Chiru-Charn fans argued that running ‘fans show’ was only a normal practice anywhere in the State when movies of top-stars were released and that the issue was being needlessly politicised, the Congress leaders brushed it aside and maintained that it was violation of Cinematography Act and exploitation of the weakness of the fans by the producers and the theatre owners.

Further, on the basis of a complaint from the Congress workers, the district revenue and police authorities swung into action initially under the garb of ensuring cleanliness in the theatres and later issuing stern warning against running more than four shows a day, as it would pose a serious problem which might lead to law and order problem in the city.

Warning
With the authorities also issuing a strict warning that the theatres which ran extra shows of the movie would have their licences cancelled, it came as a rude shock both to the theatre managements and the fans since the tickets for the ‘fans shows’ have already changed hands by then. What is more, the authorities also announced that a team of one Deputy Tahsildar and three officers in the rank of Village Revenue Officer (VRO) each would be posted at all the theatres screening the movie to ensure that the theatres sell the tickets only at the face value that too on the ‘first-come-first-served basis’.

The repeated pleas to the authorities till the last minute by the theatre managements and the fans associations to take a lenient view of the issue, since the tickets were already sold out, were however stonewalled.

The result was that the five theatres where ‘Magadheera’ was released on Friday in Tirupati have sold the tickets at the face value and screened the movie only four times with the revenue and police personnel breathing down their necks at the ticket counters to ensure strict adherence to rules

Magadheera mania in Guntur

Moviegoers and fans who watched one of the biggest movies of the year Magadheera were not disappointed on Friday as the movie lived up to their expectations.

The movie, which was simultaneously released in 11 theatres in Guntur town alone and nearly 70 theatres simultaneously in the district, stirred up a mass mania among youth.

Since morning, surging crowds were seen at all the theatres and youth went about on their bikes flaunting their tickets.

Political colour added spice to the whole show. The photos of MP R. Sambasiva Rao, Mayor R. Mohana Sai Krishna, Congress leaders Vanukuri Srinivasa Reddy were put up near Hollywood-Bollywood multiplex, while former mayor who reportedly booked tickets at Krishna Mahal too obliged partymen.

But die-hard fans of Chiranjeevi were disappointed a bit since most of the tickets for the first day had already been pocketed by Congressmen.

The theatres could witness some hysterical scenes on Saturday as the fans would be expected to throng the theatres. Fans were also felt let down as the district administration ruled out screening of extra shows and each theatre had only four shows.

Meanwhile, amid the tall talk by district administration that black marketing of tickets would be curbed, tickets were sold for excessive amounts outside the counters.

There's "no girl" in my life: Varun

Teenage heartthrob Varun Sandesh was in high school when he made a T-town splash. A self-confessed “actor by chance” Varun’s lucky streak seems

Brushing up his act: Varun Sandesh
to have continued with Kotha Bangaru Lokam.

His last flick Evvaraina Eppudaina might not have been able to notch up respectable collections at the BO, but it hasn’t dampened his spirits. In fact, it looks like he’s taking mentor Shekar Kammula’s advice seriously and is “eating, sleeping and breathing movies,” and is even taking admission in an acting course a US university.

An acting course after doing three films? “You heard it right. More than mastering the nuances of acting, I’m enrolling in the course to learn more about cinema and film-making. After I became an actor I realised the effort that goes into making each scene,” he explains.

He’s also excited about his new film — a remake of the Tamil hit Pollathavan. “I haven’t done such a role before. I saw the original but the director allowed me to interpret the role in my own way as it covers a gamut of emotions,” he says.

However, he has no reservations discussing his other film which is a remake of the old classic Maro Charitra. “It’s an amazing film,” he says going on to add, “It is being presented in a sleek fashion to attract youngsters and the fresh backdrop and modern outlook will apparently make it more trendy and contemporary.”

So, is he on a signing spree these days? “I am hearing lot of scripts but haven’t signed anything new for the time being,” he avers.

The US-bred youngster feels New Age Hyderabadis sure know how to party in style. He however, likes partying only with close friends (read co-stars of his films). And when he’s not partying or working he goes back to the US to spend time with his friends and family.
Right now he says there’s “no girl” in his life. That explains why he’s so “attached” to his play station!
