After grabbing all the headlines, thanks to the first installment of “Rakta Charitra”, Ram Gopal Varma was all set to shock everyone with part two of the film. Though the initial date of release for the film was November 19, the maverick director postponed his film to December 3. And the reason? Well, who would have guessed — Godman Satya Sai Baba and Ram Charan Tej. Yes, you hear it right. Sources close to RGV informed us that since Satya Sai Baba’s birthday falls on November 23 — four days after the release of “RC 2” — RGV decided to postpone the release.
“Rakta Charitra 2”, as the title suggests, is a blood bath that deals with the feud between the families of Paritala Ravi and Maddelacheruvu Suri in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh. Incidentally, Satya Sai Baba’s ashram Prashanti Nilayam at Puttaparthi is also in the same district. To avoid any disturbance to the Baba and his devotees on this day, Varma took the decision.
“There are a lot of expectations riding on “RC 2” because this part of the story is more recent in occurance. Besides, superstar Suriya will be making his Bollywood debut with this film. The people of Anantapur are polarized between the two faction groups and if the story of the movie doesn’t suit their affiliations, violence is inevitable. This will surely disturb the birthday celebrations of Satya Sai Baba,” said a source on condition of anonymity. Sources also suggest that since Ram Charan Tej’s next with Genelia will release in the same week, it was a smart decision to move the release date of “RC 2”.
When contacted, the coproducer of the film, Raj Kumar did not deny the Ram Charan factor. “Charan’s next is releasing in the same week which will leave us with fewer theaters to release our film. “Magadheera” was a blockbuster, and obviously exhibitors are keen to screen his film. Also the post-production work of “RC 2” is still in progress. The sum of all these factors forced us to delay the release of our film,” Raj Kumar said.
