Praja Rajyam MLA threatens to resign, relents

VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada West MLA Vellampalli Srinivas is said to have threatened to quit the Praja Rajyam Party in connection with the alleged beating up of his driver and brother by former MLA Vangaveeti Radhakrishna during party president K. Chiranjeevi’s visit to flood affected areas at Bhavanipuram on Saturday.

Mr. Chiranjeevi, who completed his visit to flood-hit areas in Krishna district on Sunday, intervened in the matter and persuaded Mr. Srinivas not to take any drastic decision.

Party circles were rife with rumours that Mr. Chiranjeevi made it clear to Mr. Radhakrishna that attacks on others during the party programmes was not acceptable and that it would not be tolerated.

Mr. Srinivas was reportedly upset over the treatment meted out to his driver and brother. When he decided to stay away from the party president’s tour in the district on Sunday, Mr. Chiranjeevi was stated to have spoken to him and assured him that such incidents would not recur.

Taking advantage of Saturday incident, some leaders informed Mr. Chiranjeevi that the Radha group in the party was directly or indirectly responsible for the exit of leaders like Kesineni Nani, Boppana Bhava Kumar and others from the party in the formative years of its growth in Krishna district.

The city leaders also took up the issue of the city convener’s post remaining vacant ever since the exit of Mr. Bhava Kumar.

Mr. Radhakrishna maintained a low profile during Mr. Chiranjeevi’s tour in the district on Sunday, and did not show interest to take a seat beside the party president during the press conference addressed by the latter in The Gateway Hotel.

Vijayawada East MLA Yelamanchili Ravi and Mr. Srinivas were seated on either side of the party president, as he addressed the conference. Mr. Chiranjeevi acknowledged the services rendered by the two MLAs to the cause of the flood victims, without mentioning any other name.
