Jagan’s coterie making things complicated

The coterie of the Kadapa MP, Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, is making things more complicated for their leader, due to lack of political experience. Interestingly, Jagan’s father, Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, too had to face similar situation from the seniors during his initial days.

Though he was made the APCC president, Dr Rajasekhar Reddy had tough time with the seniors and was kept out of the power circles those days. The tough fight that the late leader had given to his seniors had brought him to the lime light and helped him clinch to the top seat. From 1980s to 2004, he had concentrated mostly in establishing contacts of his own across the State. He often visited the districts, met his men, made them loyal to him and proved his strength. In 1998 elections too, his detractors have tried to push him to the back seat. As the CLP leader, from 1998 to 2004, YS toiled more despite the resistance from the seniors. The Padayatra and the subsequent bus yatra have helped him to prove his strength and finally make it to the Chief Minister’s post.

There was opposition to his pada yatra and bus yatra from the seniors. Some of them did not extend cooperation, while several others have found fault with him. However, he took every thing on his stride and went ahead, playing counter games with the seniors. Once in the Chief Minister’s post, Dr Rajasekhar Reddy was not free from the power games of the senior leaders and his detractors. All through the five years, he was fighting the battle all alone.

It was only in the 2009 elections, he had a free hand from the high command and the seniors remained silent. He was given free hand to pick his own MLAs and MPs and ensure that they won the election. Now, Jagan too is facing similar problem with the seniors in the party. But, the difference is that he is being guided by a coterie who is planning the wrong things for him. While his father depended on his own calculations, Jagan appears to be depending more on this coterie, who have their own interests to be safeguarded than the interests of Jagan. Lack of experience for this coterie too is a disadvantage to Jagan,
