Sakshi story against Gali, a clever ploy

When Sakshi Telugu daily blasted the banner story against illegal construction of bund and road across Mylavaram reservoir to divert water to Brahmani Steels in Kadapa district, it raised many an eye brow.

It is an open secret that the Brahmani Steels belongs to Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy, with benami shares of Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, chairman of Sakshi and son of Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. In fact, the foundation for the project was laid by YSR himself in June 2007 because of his proximity with Gali Janardhan Reddy.

So, it was rather surprising to see Sakshi writing a negative report against Brahmani Steels. According to sources, Sakshi management had come to know that the illegal construction of bund across the reservoir was being investigated into by its rival daily Andhra Jyothy; and the Brahmani management, too, had agreed that there was no permission to construct the bund.

Had it been exposed by Andhra Jyothy, it would have been a major embarrassment to YSR. To deny any credit to Andhra Jyothy, Sakshi took the initiative and published a negative story, after ascertaining that Brahmani Steels would be demolishing the bund after the construction of the steel factory.

By doing so, Sakshi has not only denied the credit to AJ, but also proved to the world that it can write negative stories against its own management’s interests!
