Naidu’s T-party with KCR ends

The Telugu Desam has decided to sever ties with the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections scheduled for next month.
The TD city president, Mr K. Vijayarama Rao, said that the party would not have an alliance with the TRS in the GHMC polls, but it may tie up with the Left parties depending on local needs.
Sources in the party said the decision was taken after the Assembly election results showed that the separatist Telengana plank of the TRS was not helpful to the Telugu Desam.
The party feared that an alliance with the TRS may doom it in the GHMC polls too. A senior TRS leader said, “If the Telugu Desam is not interested in having a tie up with us, it’s okay.”
The Telugu Desam took the lead in forming the Mahakutami comprising the TRS and the Left parties. However, the separatist Tel-angana plank boomeranged and the party had to bite the dust at the hustings.
The former minister, Mr T. Srinivas Yadav, raised the banner of revolt on the Telengana issue, saying the TD will lose again if it goes with the TRS in Hyderabad.
In another development, the TD is thinking of moving the High Court against carving out of municipal divisions, including reservations of divisions and irregularities in voters’ lists in GHMC limits.
The TD president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, who convened a meeting of TD leaders of GHMC areas, including parts of Ranga Reddy district, alleged that the divisions were carved out by the government to favour the Congress.
Mr Naidu also said that the Telugu Desam would win the polls with ease because of the immense development undertaken by his government when it was in power, which brought Hyderabad international recognition.
