What’s the one constant and common style that you will notice in all Bollywood psarties this year? No, not Queenie Dhody — guys with their shirt buttons open to their navel, irrespective of what cleavage they want to show.From Shahid Kapur, Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan to every single aspiring bloke on the circuit. With Bollywood being a big trendsetter in the country, is this something that guys should be looking at or immediately killing off?

“I think this trend should be stopped immediately, unless the guys want all the women in their lives to scream and run away! If you have a good body, then wear well-fitted garments to show it off, but don’t go around unbuttoned. Only one or two buttons is okay, but not more. And if your chest hair is unruly, then don’t keep your shirt open!” warns designer Nikasha Tawadey.

And the sentiments seem to run deep among those that tell us what to wear. “It’s not a favourable trend. Basically, it’s good to keep a mystery and not have too much on display. If you have a good body, it looks okay, but too much is always unwanted. As for chest hair, most Indian men don’t wax, so they will have it. So I would advise not leaving their shirts fully unbuttoned,” advises designer Chaitanya Rao.

If that’s not warning enough, here’s the last blow. “I’m not really fond of the trend and I don’t think it suits everyone. If it suits the role it’s fine otherwise it doesn’t make sense. I would definitely love to see Hrithik Roshan in such an avatar but Salman Khan opening up his shirt at every instance is a little bizarre,” says designer Krishna Mehta. Guys, are you listening?
