The BJP's new chief, G Kishan Reddy, has launched hunger strike asking the government to release the scholarships and pending fee for the BC students. He launched his hunger strike at the party office at Nampalli.
It was the BC leader R Krishnaiah who started the hunger strike on June 25. Though the police have spoiled the hunger strike and shifted him to the hospital on the same day evening, he is continuing his fast in the hospital.
It was Krishnaiah who raised the issue first and stood by the BC students who have been admitted into various corporate colleges through the fee reimbursement programme of late Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy. After Dr Reddy's death and Rosaiah's succession, the scheme was pushed to the back and no student was paid the fee.
The colleges, which have given admission to these students, have mounted pressure on the students following which Krishnaiah took up the cause.
As Krishnaiah is in hospital, the BJP's Kishan Reddy grabbed the issue and launched the hunger strike/ The BJP wants to win the BCs by speaking for them now. However, it may not be as easy to win the hearts of the BCs as grabbing their issue from the BC leader.
