EC slapped Gali Brothers

The Election Commission has slapped notices on three Ministers in the Karnataka’s BJP government, seeking explanation on their disqualification from the Assembly.

The EC reacted to the complaint by a former MP, K C Kondaiah, who said the BJP Ministers, Gali Janardhana Reddy (tourism), Gali Karunakar Reddy (Revenue) and B Sriramulu (Health), were holding profitable positions outside the Assembly and hence not qualified to be the LAs and Ministers.

Kondaiah had submitted the complaint to the Karnataka Governor, H R Bhardwaj, who summoned the three Ministers to the Raj Bhavan, three times, seeking their explanation. However, the Ministers refused to meet the Governor and have sent their advocates.

Angered at this, the Governor had forwarded the complaint to the Election Commission basing on which the EC had slapped the notices. The EC had directed the State government to hand over the notices in person to the Ministers and get their replies.

Besides the complainant, the Governor is also angry with the Ministers for not honouring his words. Even the Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, is unhappy with the Ministers who have been facing several corruption charges. They have even tried to unseat the Chief Minister a couple of months ago. Yeddyurappa had to come down and strike a deal with the Ministers to continue in the office.

Keeping all these factors into consideration, the three Ministers from Karnataka have no support and it is to be seen how they would come out of the present crisis.
