The Praja Rajyam president, Mr K. Chiranjeevi, failed to make a mark in his maiden speech in the Assembly. While political leaders are fighting with each other to get more time to speak in the Assembly, Mr Chiranjeevi could not speak for the 20 minutes allotted to him.
It is customary for the Speaker to remind the members that their time is up when they discuss issues in the Assembly. However, in the case of Mr Chiranjeevi, that was not necessary. He finished his speech and sat down before other members could settle down. His all appeasing strategy made his speech a lacklustre affair. As he was not willing to hurt any party, the speech did not create any impact. Five minutes were left for Mr Chiranjeevi to complete his speech. When the Deputy Speaker, Mr N. Manohar, reminded him that he can continue his speech, Mr Chiranjeevi signalled that his time may be given to someone else. The remaining time was given to Ms Sobha Nagi Reddy, another PR member.
Participating in the Budget debate, Mr Chiranjeevi pointed out that the government was considering the Arogyasri scheme to be a solution for all the problems affecting the health sector. He sought steps to improve the primary health centres and pointed out that government hospitals did not have the required medicines except paracetamol.
